Divide Two Integers

advancedlayer I11 · Bit manipulation5 tests

Divide dividend by divisor without using the *, / or % operators, and return the quotient.

  • The quotient is truncated toward zero: -7 / 2 is -3, not -4
  • Both operands fit in the signed 32-bit range [-2147483648, 2147483647], and the answer must be clamped to that range
  • Only one case can overflow: divide(-2147483648, -1) is mathematically 2147483648, so it must return 2147483647
  • divisor is never 0
