Zigzag Conversion

advancedlayer B2 · Arrays & strings5 tests

Imagine writing a string downward across numRows rows, and when you hit the bottom row, writing diagonally back up to the top, then down again — a zigzag. Write convert(s, numRows) returning the characters read off row by row, top row first.

  • With numRows = 3, PAYPALISHIRING lays out as rows PAHN, APLSIIG, YIR and returns PAHNAPLSIIGYIR
  • When numRows is 1 there is no zigzag, so the string comes back unchanged
  • The same holds when numRows is at least the length of the string
